Valentine’s Day is coming, so I made heart cookies to impress… myself 🫠🫶 But seriously, they’re buttery, soft, and just sweet enough to make you forget about the mess in the kitchen.


These heart and envelope-shaped sugar cookies are your Valentine’s Day answer to “what should I bake that looks cute but isn’t stressful?” The dough is simple with a cozy cardamom twist, and the frosting? Foolproof, with just enough red to feel festive enough 💌💘

For the sugar cookie:

  • 113 butter, room temperature
  • 2 dl | 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 tsp cardamom
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3,5 dl | 1 3/4 cup all purpose flour

For the frosting:

  • 1 large egg white
  • 4 dl | 2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • red food coloring ( preferably gel not water based)

Directions

  1. Start by combining the sugar and butter until smooth and pale.
  2. Add the egg and combine.
  3. Then add all dry ingredients, mix until a dough is formed.
  4. Place the dough in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 min.
  5. Then roll out the dough and cut out the shapes, carefully transfer on baking sheet.
  6. Bake on 185 c or 350 f for 15 min.
  7. Take out and let cool completely.
  8. For the frosting, combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix with an electric mixer.
  9. Set aside 1/4 cup and color red.
  10. Decorate!!!
